Starting with an Internship

Adam’s story at Omnicell began as an intern in 2013.

Like many early-career professionals, he was still figuring out what he wanted from his future workplace. The internship gave him valuable experience, but it also gave him a chance to experience the people and culture that would eventually bring him back.

Today, Adam is a Software Engineer IV, helping develop technology that supports healthcare professionals and the patients they serve. His career has included leaving Omnicell, gaining experience elsewhere, and ultimately making the decision to return.

For Adam, that decision came down to something simple: he knew what it felt like to work somewhere he was genuinely valued.

A Culture Worth Returning To

After his internship ended, Adam explored other opportunities and continued building his technical skills. But as his career progressed, he found himself comparing those experiences to the environment he had known at Omnicell.

When the opportunity arose to return, the choice felt clear.

Adam reflected on feeling respected by his teammates and leaders. He described an environment where employees are treated as individuals and where leaders take the time to communicate openly, even during difficult moments.

"When people are treated with respect, you notice it," he explained.

Throughout his career, he's felt trusted to contribute, encouraged to grow, and valued as an individual rather than simply another employee in a large organization.

"You're a cog in a machine at most companies, but not here."

One moment that stands out to him involved a company leader taking the time to speak openly and thoughtfully during a difficult business situation. The experience reinforced what Adam already believed about the culture around him: people matter.

That sense of respect has remained a defining part of his experience and one of the primary reasons he's chosen to continue building his career here.

Unexpected Skills

As an engineer, Adam expected to spend his career developing software and solving technical challenges.

Software engineering is often stereotyped as solitary work, but his experience at Omnicell has been different.

Whether he's leading daily standups, supporting teammates, or helping drive collaboration across a remote team, communication plays a significant role in his day-to-day work.

"I've found my people skills are a lot more used than I thought they would be," he said.

Maintaining strong connections in a remote environment requires intentional effort, but Adam enjoys that part of the role. He believes positive attitudes, good communication, and genuine collaboration help teams perform at their best.

A Builder at Heart

If there’s one word that best describes Adam, it’s builder.

At work, he enjoys tackling complex problems and finding better ways to deliver solutions. Outside of work, that curiosity continues through personal projects and experimentation with new technologies. Recently, he even developed and released his own independent puzzle game.

When he isn't coding, you'll often find him spending time with his dog, who provides a welcome reason to step away from the screen and recharge. But even those quieter moments reflect the same mindset that's guided his career from intern to engineer: curiosity, creativity, and a desire to keep learning.

"I like building things," Adam said. Whether it's software for healthcare professionals, a personal side project, or simply experimenting with a new idea, that motivation continues to shape both his work and life outside the office.

Advice for Future Engineers

Technology is constantly evolving, and Adam believes the best engineers are the ones who never stop learning. Whether it's developing new technical skills, exploring emerging tools, or simply staying curious, adaptability is an important part of long-term growth.

For engineers evaluating their next role, Adam recommends looking beyond the hype. While startup environments often get a lot of attention, he appreciates working for a company with deep expertise, established processes, and teams that know how to solve complex problems together.

For him, Omnicell offers the best of both worlds: meaningful work, experienced colleagues, and a culture where people feel respected. And after experiencing life both inside and outside the company, that's one of the biggest reasons he chose to come back.
